History

William Staub, a mechanical engineer introduced the first consumer treadmill for home use.  When Staub read the 1968 book, Aerobics, by Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, he knew much about treadmill.

By Cooper’s book he noted that individuals who ran for eight minutes four-to-five times a week would be in better physical condition. He noticed that there were no sound household treadmills at the time and determined to build up a treadmill for his own use during the late 1960s. He called his first treadmill the PaceMaster 600. When Staub finished, he sent his model treadmill to Cooper, who establishes the machine’s first for customers, which integrated sellers of fitness instrument.

Staub began producing the first home treadmills at his plant in Clifton, New Jersey, before moving production to Little Falls, New Jwrsey.
